Y-Cam have started work on designing a camera concept that would ensure you have much more focus on flexibility and put you in full control of what was going on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Above all though is that these systems needed to be affordable for the home and business. Here’s a quote taken directly from Y-Cam which indicates where the story began in 2004 and how the idea came about.
Founders Story
““In 2004 I was abroad on holiday with my family when I received a notification that my burglar alarm had been triggered. I had no idea what was going on, and the automatic text message alert that I received from my alarm gave little clue.
Not being able to contact my family or neighbours nearby to my property, I was left with no other choice but to phone the Police. Being so far away with no way of knowing what was happening was unbearable, and as the minutes rolled by I couldn’t help but worry about what was happening. Was my house, and my possessions, safe?
After about 45 minutes, the Police rang me – it was a false alarm. The relief was instant, but the time I had spent helplessly worrying about my house from over 1000 miles away stayed with me. I realised it was no good just being told there was a problem – I needed to see the problem (or at least see there wasn’t a problem!). On my return I looked into what remote camera solutions were available in the market, but everything seemed far too technical or was ridiculously expensive. With the developments in mobile technology and the increase of internet speeds I thought that there must be an easier way…
After 2 years of research and development, my business partner and I created the Y-cam internet camera – designed from the start with non-technical users in mind, and in 2007 we were able to officially launch the Y-cam to the public.

Micro Storage
Some of these Y-CAM IP camera’s are designed to store data directly onto a Micro SD card meaning that the convenience of storage has been hugely simplified and takes away the need to store video on expensive servers. Aside from this it is also possible to store captured CCTV footage in full colour and high quality sound using a NAS Network hard drive. You can just as easily source out your own NAS Drive’s, however Y-Cam also offer a range of devices perfectly suited to their cameras which can also be purchased separately. Multi-client access and password protection
Having remote access means that it has the added benefit of supporting multi-client access with up to 15 selected users to have login accounts. This means that more than one person can keep an eye on their property at any time, anywhere in the world. The systems are heavily secure and protected from unauthorised access.
Motion detection alerts via email
The advantages of having IP based security technology mean that you can also be updated and informed whenever any significant motion based changes occur on camera via the motion detection alerts through e-mail. This adds further relief that if anything happens to occur, whether concerning or not, you can be confident that you will be the first to know as and when movement is detected, the moment it takes place. Use your mobile/cell phone to keep notifications close to your side at all times. With multi-client access you can add more reassurance that you have everything under control should the worst happen.

Infrared Night Vision

Mobile Phone CCTV Monitoring
With support for MJPED and 3GPP, the Y Cam cameras provide round the clock live viewing for multiple platforms including Macs, Android, iPhones and Blackberry’s. The Y-Cam’s live stream can be viewed using any mobile phone that can play VLC-compatible streams, such as Quicktime and Realplayer.
MPEG-4 Compression for Reduced Bandwidth & Storage (Ideal for mobile CCTV monitoring)
